After a phenomenal response from Salop fans saw our crowdfunder to purchase flags for the South Stand hit its £500 target in just a couple of days, rather than saying “job done”, we decided to expand our ambitions and double the target to £1000.
As the month went on, aided by press coverage in the Shropshire Star and Shrewsbury Chronicle, we edged closer and closer to the new ambitious target – and with days to spare we are delighted to have now reached the magic four figures.
The donation that got us over the line came from “Salopian Pride”, who describe themselves as “Shrewsbury Town’s group for LGBTQ+ Fans and Allies”, who can be found on Twitter at @salopianpride. Their donation of £60 is amongst the biggest we have received and we will ensure it is put to good use!

In the meantime, things are progressing with the designs and we will be looking at purchasing the flags in plenty of time for the season-opener against Portsmouth. We will announce more details in due course but we are very excited about bringing some of the suggestions put to us to fruition. We hope you’ll like what is in store.
We are pleased to announce that we are now selling packs of 10 stickers for just £2.50 plus £1 for postage. The stickers are of the high-quality laminated variety, and are cut to the shape of our flag logo. Any profits made will go back into the flag project.

On Monday 10th June, at the invitation of CEO Brian Caldwell, we attended a meeting at STFC regarding our project. Also present at the meeting were representatives from the club’s safety and media departments, as well as from the Supporters’ Parliament. The meeting provided us with an opportunity to outline our ideas to the club, and for them to provide feedback in terms of how they can support us, and anything we may need to be wary of going forward.
The first topic to be discussed was what exactly is permitted in the stadium? The club’s safety representative explained that supporters are free to bring flags up to a size of 2m x 1m with any exposed flagpole needing to be less than 1m in length. This means that the majority of the flags we intend to purchase will not need any special permission. Any flags larger than this will require the relevant fire safety testing, and we will therefore work with the club going forward to ensure that know any flags we have planned are allowed in the stadium before we purchase them!
In terms of where flags are going to be located, much of this depends on how much money is raised, which affects how many flags are purchased, and therefore how many people we can get involved. Our long term aim remains to turn the entire South Stand into a sea of blue and amber before Town home games and if our crowdfunder continues its success and exceeds £1000, there is a good chance this will become a reality sooner rather than later.
Regulation-wise, whilst in theory any flag which is within the aforementioned stadium regulations is allowed in any part of the ground, it is clear that we will have to be mindful of the wheelchair platform which is situated at the back of block 11, 12 and part of block 10. As a group we will avoid placing large flags in front of the platform and encourage people in this area who want to get involved to be mindful of those behind them. Having said that, we want to involve disabled Salop fans in our displays as much as they want to be involved.For all other supporters…
If you want to play a more active role in the pre-match displays, especially with regard to the larger flags, we encourage you to join us near the front of the safe standing section in block 9, which is where our group is already based.
Also discussed was the issue of handing out and collecting in flags. The club are happy for us to have a point for fans to collect flags before the match, near the safe standing turnstiles. Likewise, there will be collection points at each exit of the South Stand post-match for fans to leave flags behind after the game. It will be crucial to our long-term success that flags are left behind and not taken home as souvenirs, and we are confident Salop fans will respect this. The club have also confirmed that they are happy to provide storage for our flags between games, which will be much appreciated given the quantity of flags.
We are currently in the initial stages of designing our flags, and hope to have finalised designs ready to order by the time our crowdfunder closes on July 3rd. In this respect, we are grateful to the club’s media department, who have kindly offered to provide high quality vector images to help us produce the larger flags.

Since its launch on Friday morning, the response to our crowdfunder has been nothing short of phenomenal. After just three days, we have smashed the intial £500 target, meaning that as of Monday evening, the crowdfunder sits at a hugely impressive £745. Thank you to everybody who has contributed so far.
As the crowdfunder still has a full month left to run, we have decided to extend the target to £1000. Unlike the original target, it is not essential for this to be met in order for us to receive the funds, although economies of scale mean that every pound pledged is now having an even greater impact in terms of what we’ll be able to purchase.
We will be heading to New Meadow in due course to discuss specifics around what we can do with our project, we will provide an update once we have done this.

The South Stand Flags crowdfunder is officially up and running, with an “all or nothing” target for £500. All pledges, however big or small, will be gratefully received and will really help us get this project off the ground.
We are delighted to announce that, following discussions with the STFC safety officer, we have been given to the green light to proceed with our flag project, for which crowdfunding commences on Friday May 31st. We would thank the club for their reasonable and enthusiastic approach to this fan-led initiative.
“From Gay Meadow to Wembley, we’ll keep the blue flag flying high”
We are delighted to announce that our first crowdfunder will be launched on Friday 31st May 2019. It will run for a period of 5 weeks and will have a target of £500. The proceeds will be used to purchase around 100 flags for the South Stand for use on home match days. All flags will be re-usable and will be at games throughout the season.
Please note that this will be an all or nothing crowdfunder, meaning that if the £500 is not reached, the project will not happen, so please give generously! If the £500 target is exceeded this will enable the purchase of more flags and create an even better spectacle.
